Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement sets out the steps Cleaner Kensington has taken, and will continue to take, to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking from occurring within our operations and supply chains. Cleaner Kensington is committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all business relationships, and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to safeguard the rights and wellbeing of all workers.
Our Zero-Tolerance Policy
Cleaner Kensington has a strict zero-tolerance approach to all forms of modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, servitude and child labour. We will not knowingly engage with any organisation that is involved in or complicit with such practices. This commitment applies to our own activities, our employees and workers, and to every part of our supply chain.
All colleagues, irrespective of role or seniority, are expected to uphold our standards and act in a manner consistent with our values. Breaches of this policy by employees may result in disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal. Where suppliers or contractors are found to be in breach, we will take appropriate and proportionate action, which may include suspension of work, termination of contracts and reporting to relevant authorities.
Our Supply Chain and Due Diligence
Our supply chain includes providers of cleaning products and equipment, facilities management services, recruitment and labour providers, and other professional and operational services. We recognise that some parts of the cleaning and facilities sector can be at higher risk of labour exploitation, particularly where lower-skilled or temporary workers are engaged.
Cleaner Kensington undertakes risk-based due diligence on suppliers, focusing on those operating in higher-risk categories or regions. As part of our onboarding and ongoing relationship management, we require suppliers to confirm their compliance with applicable labour and human rights laws, and to commit to standards that align with our own. Where appropriate, we request information on supplier policies, employment practices and workforce management.
Supplier Audits and Monitoring
We operate a programme of supplier audits and monitoring tailored to the level of risk and nature of the services provided. This may include desk-based reviews of policies and documentation, site visits and worker interviews carried out either directly by Cleaner Kensington or by competent third parties.
During audits, we seek evidence that suppliers are paying at least the legal minimum wage, providing safe working conditions, respecting working time limits, and ensuring that employment is freely chosen. We pay particular attention to the use of recruitment fees, retention of identity documents, and any indicators of coercion or control. Where concerns are identified, we work with suppliers to agree corrective action plans with clear timescales, and we follow up to confirm effective implementation.
Reporting Channels and Whistleblowing
Cleaner Kensington encourages anyone who has concerns about modern slavery or unethical labour practices connected to our operations or supply chain to raise them without fear of retaliation. Concerns can be raised through internal management channels or through our whistleblowing routes, which allow issues to be reported confidentially.
All reports are treated seriously and investigated promptly and impartially. We will take appropriate remedial action where issues are identified and, where necessary, will cooperate fully with law enforcement and regulatory bodies. We are committed to protecting those who speak up in good faith, and we prohibit any form of victimisation or detrimental treatment of individuals who raise concerns.
Training and Awareness
We provide training and guidance to relevant employees, particularly those involved in procurement, recruitment and contract management, to help them recognise indicators of modern slavery and understand how to respond to concerns. We also raise awareness among our wider workforce about the risks of exploitation and the importance of ethical conduct.
Governance and Annual Review
Responsibility for overseeing our approach to modern slavery rests with the senior management of Cleaner Kensington, who ensure that appropriate resources and oversight are in place. This statement is reviewed annually to assess the effectiveness of our measures, to reflect changes in our business and supply chains, and to incorporate lessons learned from audits, investigations and industry developments.
This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement has been approved by the leadership of Cleaner Kensington and is intended to cover the financial year to which it relates. It will be updated and reissued each year to confirm our continued commitment to preventing modern slavery in all its forms.
